The PNW Section’s February meeting was a tutorial on the basic six audio measurements by Brian MacMillan of Audio Precision. This meeting was held in-person at the A-P headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon USA, as well as on Zoom on February 25 2025. About 19 people came in-person (5 AES members) and 34 were on Zoom (31 AES members).
PNW Chair Dan Mortensen noted that the PNW Section now includes Oregon and we welcomed the opportunity to have an event there. After self-introductions of attendees, Brian MacMillan, whose title is “Product Owner,” went through the basics of the six standard audio measurements;
1) Level
2) Frequency response
3) Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise (THD+N)
4) Phase
5) Crosstalk
6) Signal- to-Noise Ratio
Brian noted that any brand analyzer has similar displays of these classic measurements.
Finally, there was a walking tour of the factory and production facilities, which was also carried on Zoom. In-person attendees then had refreshments and chatted, while Zoom attendees, alas had no food provided but could chat further.
